| Ken Hayden, a native of Ohio, moved to London to study photography at the age of 30. Stints with interior design clients immediately landed the photographer in six different European magazines. Designers and architects have remained the foundation of his highly successful business, which has taken him to the corners of the globe, and he continues to amass a variety of sophisticated clients that include the Aman group of hotels, Swarovski and the Taj hotel group in India. Hayden has shot 18 of Aman’s 25 resorts worldwide, a recall rate that is enviable among other working professionals in his field. Before long, American magazine editors took notice of Hayden’s talents, hiring him to photograph the interiors for their pages. His luxury shelter and lifestyle publication credits include Architectural Digest in the U.S., Germany, France and Russia; Interior Design, The New York Times, House Beautiful, Metropolitan Home, Wallpaper, and Luxe; and his images are distributed widely in Europe through Red Cover, giving his work a breadth that few photographers enjoy to such an extent. Among Hayden’s book credits are Classic Chic, which he photographed for Jacqui Small Publishing in 2001 and is being re-launched in Fall 2011; and Bachelor Style, Taschen’s Hotel Book, Sarasota Modern and Four Florida Moderns—publications in which his photographs are included. After residing in the U.K. for a decade, Hayden moved to the hip enclave of South Beach, Florida, in 2004. Though he has made Miami Beach his home base, he continues to take commissions in proximity to and far afield from his beloved place in the sun. The American Society of Media Photographers member garners high praise from those with whom he works. “What most people don’t realize when they are looking at a beautiful spread achieved by a professional like Ken Hayden is that there is much more to those pages than meets the eye,” says journalist and author Saxon Henry, who has collaborated with Hayden often during her decades-long career. “Not only are there hours of on-location shooting, but as many or more hours of post-production. It’s Hayden’s breadth of experience that makes him such an in-demand photographer in both respects. Plus, he’s one of the most professional and kindest photographers with which I’ve ever had the pleasure to work. Trust me; when the pressure is on and there’s a shoot to produce, calm and courtesy count big time!” |
